TOP 5 SUMMER SECURITY TIPS

1. USE COMMON SENSE
  • If you lose a key, get the locks changed.
  • Ask all strangers for identification.
  • Never hide an extra key outdoor - especially underneath a mat or on top of a light fixture. This is the first place the bad guys look. Leave an extra house key with a friend or a neighbor.
  • DO NOT advertise on Facebook or other social media that you are on vacation. If you like to post photos - post them after you get back.
  • For insurance purposes take photos of the contents of your home.
  • Keep all receipts in a safe and easy to find location.
  • Write down the model and serial number of all electronics.
2. MAKE IT DIFFICULT
  • Door chains are easy to bypass. Install deadbolts.
  • Install a stopper or stick on all sliding doors and windows.
  • Install window bars on all basement windows.
  • Make sure all doors and windows are properly locked.
  • Keep your premises well lit at night.
3. MAKE IT LOOK LIKE YOU ARE AT HOME
  • Install timers that turn lights on at different times. This gives the appearance that someone is home.
  • Cancel the paper.
  • Have someone pick-up the mail.
  • Park a vehicle in the drive-way.
4. INSTALL A MONITORED HOME OR CABIN SECURITY SYSTEM
  • 400% less likely to have a break-in.
  • up to 25% insurance discount.
  • optional ALARM.COM - automatic lights, locks, and thermostat control
  • optional ReedHD™ Wi-Fi Doorbell - Know Who's at the front door, records onto the cloud
5. IN CASE YOU DO HAVE A BREAK-IN:
  • If it looks like a door or window was forced open, DO NOT go inside. The Burglar may still be on site.
  • Call the Police from your cellular phone or from a neighbor's house and wait.

HOW TO CATCH SOMEONE STEALING AT WORK

Billions of dollars are lost and stolen annually because of Employee Theft (any stealing, use or misuse of their employer's assets without permission). Here's how you can re-gain control over your business and fight back.

Document It

  • As soon as theft occurs gather information and document it
  • What was stolen?
  • When was it stolen?
  • Where was it stolen?
  • If possible, around Whom was it stolen?

 Watch for Inconsistencies

  • In your records, watch for instances where the numbers don't add up.

Eg: Your records show you had 20 expensive jackets at the start of the day, at the end of the day you had 10 in stock, but you only have records of 9 being sold. INVESTIGATE!
  • Watch for instances where Money or Goods appear to be missing
  • Pay extra attention to cash register functions: No Sale, Refund, $0 Sale, VOID
  • Use footage from your ReedHD™ Hi-Def Cameras and look for signs of theft:

    • Cash being taken from a register and placed into a pocket
    • Cash taken from a register and into a tip jar
    • Strange habits around cash register
    • Merchandise going into jackets, purses or backpacks
    • Merchandise going into the garbage
    • Unauthorized access to cash boxes and safes
    • After hours access to the building
    • Transactions between friends and family. Sweat-hearting is when items are not entered into the cash register and the goods leave the store.

Theft Proof

  • Set up an anonymous tip system
  • Hold one on one interviews with your staff. Honest co-workers may point you in the right direction.
  • Install a modern POS (point-of-sale) system
  • Install ReedHD™ Hi-Def Cameras with remote view - record 14 to 30 days in HD
  • Install an Access Control key-less entry system - restrict after hours access
  • Install a monitored alarm system with notifications - get instant notifications when your employee arms or disarms
